The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and Technology Enhanced Learning and Online Strategies (TLOS) are offering course design clinics to help instructors and GTAs plan for an environment requiring flexibility between remote and face to face instruction. 3. MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR BLACK INDIVIDUALS OPEN ZOOM CONFERENCE
Thursday, August 13, 6pm, Zoom  
The Psychology Department’s Stress and Coping Lab is working to provide more accessible and effective therapy and assessment services to black individuals at Virginia Tech and in the community at the Psychological Services Center (PSC). In order to provide more tailored and informed care, we want to hear from black individuals in the VT community about ideas they may have in order to make mental health services more accessible and helpful during an open Zoom conference led by Dr. Russell T. 6. NEW EVENING ONLY (EO) PARKING PERMITS AVAILABLE – 1^st posting
Virginia Tech Transportation Services is offering a new Evening Only (EO) Permit that will provide faculty, staff, students, volunteers, and community members the opportunity to park on campus during evenings only (5 – 10 p.m.). These permits can now be purchased for $100 annually or $50 per semester in-person at Parking Services (505 Beamer Way).  The EO tag is currently not available for sale online. 7. APPLICATIONS FOR GSA PROGRAM CHAIRS NOW OPEN – 1^st posting 
The Graduate Student Assembly is now accepting applications for 2020-2021 program chairs! All chairs will be selected by and work directly under the guidance of the Director of Programs and be part of the GSA Executive Council. Each position will have responsibilities related to implementing the GSA’s programs, attending meetings, and volunteering at GSA-sponsored events. This year, we are hiring multiple chairs to support and update our existing programs, including the Travel Fund Program, the Cap and Gown Program, and the annual Research Symposium and Exposition. Our 2020-21 Program Chair applications are open and online. Direct questions regarding these positions to the Director of Programs, Martina Svyantek via svyantek@vt.edu using the subject line “Program Chair Query”. Completed applications are due on September 9th, at 5:00pm.

8. COMPREHENSIVE FEE PAYMENT PLAN FOR STUDENTS ON ASSISTANTSHIP – 2^nd posting
Graduate students on an assistantship contract may choose to pay their comprehensive and commonwealth facilities and equipment fees using the Graduate Comprehensive Fee Payment Plan. Enrollment in the plan is possible after an eligible student has registered for classes and the department has entered the tuition remission award. The plan is available during the fall and spring semesters at no cost, with a new application required each semester. Fall enrollment deadline: 9/29/20.

9. MESSAGE FROM UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID – 2^nd posting
If you applied for and were awarded financial aid, please remember to actively accept your Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan in Hokie SPA if you plan to use it.  If you plan to use it and do not accept, it will not appear as a payment on your university bill. You may find instructions for viewing your financial aid offer and accepting or declining your loan here. If you are a new borrower, you also need to complete Entrance Counseling and your Master Promissory Note at the Federal Student Aid website. Please take of these items as soon as possible.

10. NEW PROCEDURES FOR REQUESTING REDUCED COMPREHENSIVE FEES – 2^nd posting
In recognition of students living and studying away from the Blacksburg campus, comprehensive fees may be reduced for students enrolled in an all virtual schedule or who have only research hours/ independent study not located on campus.  Students must certify that they will reside more than 50 miles from the Blacksburg campus for the entire semester.  More information can be found on the Bursar website.  To be considered, this form must be submitted by the last day to add courses each semester.

11. TEAM SCIENCE CLASS, ALCE 5224 (FALL 2020) – 3^rd posting

13. GA OPPORTUNITY IN LIBRARY & CEE – 1^st posting
University Libraries and Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering is seeking a Graduate Assistant to work on a research project related to vibration data streaming and analysis.The goal of the project is to create a real-time monitoring platform for the Goodwin Hall Smart building, which collects vibration data continuously from over 200 sensors. This includes data acquisition & processing, data management, and data visualization. This platform would enable users to interact with the building via a web interface, obtain real time information on building operation, and monitor structural response to various loads (wind, tremors, occupants). You will have broad flexibility in exploring other potential applications in the context of civil engineering (e.g. sustainability, smart cities). Then get moving by joining us for a study looking at the effects of online movement classes on mood and social connection. Each survey will take approximately 30 minutes. You will be able to choose from a variety of movement classes (e.g., ballet, jazz, or contemporary dance) lasting 45 minutes. The online platform for graduate student essays, RE: Reflections and Explorations, offered through the VT Institute for Policy and Governance (VTIPG), is a great vehicle to share your research ideas and work with a broader audience and to hone your analytical and writing capabilities too. All VT graduate students are eligible to offer essays as long as they address a policy, politics or governance issue or concern. 16. BUILDING MANAGER POSTION AT THE GRADUATE LIFE CENTER FOR FALL 2020 – 3^rd posting
SECL building managers oversee daily operations of the GLC by monitoring service, safety, and security of this space created for graduate students. Duties include walking rounds, responding to issues, and completing reports, in addition to the facilitation of the co-curricular and administrative programs of the student center services and their events. GLC building managers are directly responsible for event management bookings, opening & closing of the building, and submitting of facility work orders and daily reports. Building managers must possess strong communication and customer service skills, along with the ability to move event equipment (tables and chairs). Currently we are looking for flexible staff members that are willing to work at least two shifts a week and have weekend availability. The 3D Interaction (3DI) research group at Virginia Tech invites you to participate in an online survey. Our team is investigating promising ways to interact with Augmented Reality displays in the future. In the survey, we would ask you to provide feedback on a video prototype we developed that showcases our visions of using Augmented Reality interfaces in everyday scenarios. SECL building managers oversee daily operations of the GLC by monitoring service, safety, and security of this space created for graduate students. SECL building managers oversee daily operations of the GLC by monitoring service, safety, and security of this space created for graduate students. The goal of this position is to help maintain, support, and grow the Virtual Environments Studio in Newman Library by teaching workshops, taking consultations from faculty and students about immersive environments, performing basic maintenance tasks, and assisting with AR/VR related projects associated with the University Libraries. The Mind Music and Machine Lab at Virginia Tech is seeking individuals to participate in a research study to determine the effects of different image and data processing techniques on user perception of visual artworks. During the study, you will be asked to rate music that was generated from each painting along different subjective questions. This study will be conducted through an online survey. The Mind Music and Machine Lab at Virginia Tech is seeking individuals to participate in a research study to determine the effects of different image and data processing techniques on user perception of visual artworks. During the study, you will be asked to rate music that was generated from each painting along different subjective questions. This study will be conducted through an online survey. Non-perishable food supplies are available in the Graduate School lobby for students in need. Grad students are running this food initiative to provide food supplies to fellow grads. 7. GRADUATE STUDENTS MAY USE SSDE FOR PRELIMINARY EXAMS FOR SUMMER 2020 – 2^nd posting
Graduate students who will take their preliminary examination this summer may utilize the Start of Semester Defense Exception (SSDE) form. The SSDE form should be submitted to the Graduate School no later than 3 weeks before the desired examination date to allow time for registering you and then submitting your examination request in the Electronic Signature System (ESS). Once SSDE is approved, the Graduate School will register you for the 1 credit hour registration.

8. HOKIE MENTORSHIP CONNECT NOW OPEN TO GRADUATE STUDENTS – 2nd posting
Hokie Mentorship Connect is an online platform that unites Virginia Tech students with alums for career-related support. Graduate students are now able to participate in the program as mentees. Students can gain inside information from a professional about a career field, industry or specific company, have access to a professional network, participate in individual interactions with a professional, and much more. 9. DONATIONS SOUGHT TO HELP WEST BENGAL – 3rd posting
The Indian state of West Bengal has been severely affected by a recent cyclonic storm “Amphan“. Millions of people in the coastal regions have been rendered homeless, adding further difficulties to an already difficult situation caused by the pandemic. The Bengali Students’ Association in Virginia Tech, most of whose members are from the areas worst hit by the storm, are organizing a donation campaign to help the local NGOs carry out relief operations and are requesting the help of graduate students who are willing and able to donate for this cause. 10. COACHES NEEDED FOR THE VT CREW TEAM – 1^st posting
The Virginia Tech Crew Team is seeking enthusiastic, dedicated coaches to join its staff for the fall 2020 season. The VT Crew Team is a student organization based in Blacksburg, VA that has been operating for 26 years. After great recent success this year and the promise for future excellence in the coming seasons, VT Crew is looking for coaches to expand its rapidly growing program. Rowers at VT have experience ranging from novice to 8+ years. Responsibilities: plan and execute an effective training regimen in order to prepare rowers for a competitive racing season; collaborate with student executives to help ensure a well-run program; work toward creating a culture of hard work and dedication among the team. Qualifications (ideal, not required): have adequate rowing or coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, or masters’ level. The VT Crew Team will provide coaches with coaches pay, a travel stipend for regattas, and opportunities to attend US Rowing coaching clinics. 11. GA POSITION TO SUPPORT GRADUATE STUDENT ASSEMBLY FOR 2020-21 – 1^st posting
The Graduate School is looking for a full-time graduate student to support the operation and initiatives of the Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) during the 2020-21 academic year. This FT 9-month GA position begins in Aug; some summer wage hours may be available. Primary duties include providing administrative and logistical support for GSA operations, assisting with small- and large-scale event planning and execution, and assisting GSA leaders with tasks related to their positions. Required qualifications: ability to work well independently and as a member of a team; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to manage multiple and ongoing tasks; proficiency with MS Office Suite; ability to work nights and weekends as needed; ability to deal 1with ambiguity and change. 12. RESEARCH STUDY ON FACULTY EXPERIENCE OF STUDENT CONNECTION AND ENAGEMENT IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 TEACHING CHANGES – 1^st posting

13. INTERVIEW PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR A FAMILY REPRESENTATION STUDY – 2nd posting
This telephone interview will be used for a research study exploring the impacts social media may have on young adults’ perception of family. Participants must be between the ages of 18-25. Telephone interview takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and a $5 Starbucks gift card is provided for all participants.
