4. GLC CAFÉ: GRADUATION EDITION AND SUMMER BOOK SWAP
Friday, May 11, 1:30-3:00pm, GLC Reading Room
Celebrate the end of the semester, graduation, and the beginning of summer with an extra edition of the GLC café that brings you special refreshments and a book swap. Stop by to say good bye to graduating café regulars, take some books from the Reading Room collection to enjoy during the summer and relax! The GLC café continues in the summer on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays and every Thursday. Check the weekly announcements for details.

5. GRADUATE SCHOOL SUMMER HOURS STARTING 5/14 – 1st posting
The Graduate School’s offices in the GLC  will operate with summer hours, 9:00am-4:00pm daily, with student services opening at 9:30 on Wednesdays. Immigration walk-in advising hours in the summer are MWF 1:00-4:00pm, TTh 9:00am-12:00pm. The Graduate Life Center remains accessible 24/7 to all graduate students with a valid Hokie Passport. A secure drop box is available for form submissions immediately outside GLC 120.

9. GA FOR DATA MANAGEMENT AND CURATION SERVICES – 2nd posting
Data Services, within the Research and Informatics Division of University Libraries, has an opening for a full-time (20 hr/wk) 9 mo. Graduate Assistant for the 2018-19 academic year. Position will focus on evaluation, continuing development, and provision of research data curation services through the University Libraries. Ideal applicant will have experience and knowledge relevant to research data management and curation (through coursework and/or their own research experiences), data curation, and/or service development. The Women and Gender in International Development (WGD) program at the Center for International Research, Education, and Development is seeking a Graduate Assistant to support administrative and research activities. The WGD program ensures a gender-sensitive approach to all projects and raises awareness at Virginia Tech about gender and international development issues. 9 mo. assistantship beginning Fall 2018. 12. GA POSITION WITH NETWORKED LEARNING INITIATIVES – 3rd posting
Networked Learning Initiatives (NLI) is seeking a motivated graduate student for 2018-19 that can provide operations assistance for NLI programming. Duties include assisting with the NLI daily operations, including database management and support, greeting and assisting program instructors; maintaining organization of facilities as needed; assisting with NLI event logistics; and other related duties as assigned. Must have experience providing support in an academic or professional setting; proficiency with computer functions such as word processing, spreadsheets, and database management; experience with standard computer software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.; and strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. 13. ETD WORKSHOP FOR SUMMER AND FALL GRADUATES
Wednesday, May 23 at 2:00pm in GLC Room F and Zoom
Graduate Admissions and Academic Progress staff will offer an ETD workshop to graduate students (also available through Zoom at https://virginiatech.zoom.us/j/877479649.) Students will learn how to format their Electronic Thesis/Dissertation (ETD), what Graduate School staff members look for in the ETD review, and what happens to an ETD after it is submitted to the Graduate School. Students may bring their laptop and PDF copy of the ETD for individual review.
