1.  WEEKLY SERVICES IN THE GLC  – SUMMER SCHEDULE – updated 8/4
Weekly services are on hiatus in the summer, except for the GLC café. However, career advising, counseling, financial aid advising and writing support are available at each service’s home location in the Career Services Center, Cook Counseling, Student Services Building, and the Newman Library respectively.

  • GLC Café: 3:30-5:00 every Thursday, Reading Room or GLC side patio – year round!
  • Graduate School office hours resume academic year schedule starting Aug 4; Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Wed 9:30am-5:00pm

 2. GLC CAFÉ: LEMONADE AND CORNHOLE EDITION
Thursday, Aug 7, 3:30-5:00pm, GLC Reading Room or side patio
The GLC Café is offered throughout the year with free coffee, tea, and cookies in the company of your graduate-student and Grad-School colleagues. Fresh lemonade is back! Bring your own mug if you can.

3. GLC STUDENT BUILDING MANAGER POSITIONS OPEN FOR FALL 2014 – 1st posting
The GLC Student Building Manager works closely with the Operations Manager for Student Centers and Activities as well as the Graduate School to provide services to the patrons who use the GLC. This includes providing excellent customer service, overall building management, reserving rooms, oversight of the welcome center, basic cleaning (wiping tables, vacuuming, etc.) and administrative support. The Student Building Manager has primary responsibility, including emergency response, for the building during evening and weekend hours. 4. WAGE POSITION OPEN IN GLC: DIGITAL MEDIA CONTENT MANAGER – 1st posting
The incumbent is responsible for managing digital sign, web and Facebook content, including content development and scheduling, screen and software maintenance, website maintenance, and communication and coordination with Grad School and GLC Service Desk staff. Must be FT grad student, have experience with any of the following software applications: Drupal, Dreamweaver, Macromedia Flash, Photoshop, MS PP, MS Paint, Samsung MagicNet Pro, flash converters. Preference will be given for: at least one semester of previous VT enrollment; web maintenance experience; knowledge of services, programs and events offered in the GLC. Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to work in a team environment. Submit cover letter and resume to grads@vt.edu. Position open until filled. 5. PAID INTERNSHIP IN NATIONAL ARTS CONSULTING FIRM FOR 2014-15 – 1st posting
Graduate student intern sought for school year 14-15, ~10hrs/wk, $1000 stipend per semester. Intern will work closely with the partner relations coordinator and president of the firm in conducting research and providing project support for a range of initiatives, including Emerging Leaders Program for the League of American Orchestras; Innovation Lab for Performing Arts and Arts Development Agencies; Community Arts Education Leadership Institute, and Partners-in-Performance-sponsored workshops in the NRV. Project support will also be provided on leadership development initiatives, partnerships and mergers in the non-profit arts and culture field, and marketing efforts. 6. GA OPENING IN GLOBAL EDUCATION – 3rd posting
The VT Global Education Office is seeking a Graduate Assistant for the 2014–2015 academic year to assist in the coordination of the office’s enrollment management efforts and with users of the Studio Abroad database system. The GA will also advise potential global education students on available opportunities and assist with global education recruiting fairs, orientations and other events. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director for Program Management, the GA will work closely with other office staff. Must have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, interest in intl education, ability to learn complex software, intl work- or study-abroad experience. Preferred qualifications include foreign language ability, experience with web design, office exp. 7. COACHES SOUGHT FOR 2014-15 VT CLUB SPORTS – 3rd posting
The following VT sport club teams are looking for coaches for the upcoming school year:  VT Crew (rowing), Women’s Basketball, Women’s Lacrosse and Women’s Water Polo.  All 31 VT sport clubs are extremely competitive, and compete at the intercollegiate level against sport club teams from other colleges and universities around the region and throughout the country.  Sport clubs practice during the week and travel to tournaments or host home games/tournaments on weekends.  If you would like additional information about these coaching opportunities, contact Alan Glick, Assistant Director of Recreational Sports, at aglick@vt.edu, 231-4058. 

8. GRAD STUDENT VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT TO HELP WITH ORIENTATION – 2nd posting
The Graduate School is looking for graduate student volunteers (graduate ambassadors) to assist with international graduate student check-in (Aug 4-18), GTA training (Aug 18-19), the Welcome Center and New Graduate Student Orientation in the GLC (Aug 18-22). Roles include: check-in and registration assistance, information and guidance to attendees; Welcome Center staffing; orientation crowd control; program set up, and more.
