1. ECO-THEATER WORKSHOP
Monday, May 2 – Wednesday, May 4, 4-8 pm, Haymarket Theater.
A theater organization (Superhero Clubhouse) from New York City is coming to Virginia Tech to hold a three-day eco theater workshop. This will be a creative workshop for people of all backgrounds, occupations, and levels of experience to collaboratively respond to climate and environmental crises through guided performance-making. Beginning with a presentation of research and culminating in short performances made by participants. The workshop is an accessible introduction to SuperheroClubhouse’s eco-theater pedagogy, offering tools to explore the complexities of the climate crisis and envision alternative futures through personal and collective expression. SAVES is a group of passionate and dedicated students at Virginia Tech that strive to educate our community on topics such as sexual assault, stalking, gender-based violence, and (un)healthy relationships. By leading presentations, hosting informal discussions, and organizing campaigns like Red Flag, we strive to encourage healthy relationships and make our campus safer and more rewarding for all of its members. Working with the Virginia Tech Women’s Center, we’ll provide students with the necessary training and resources to get started; just bring your enthusiasm and a commitment to helping others! 13. GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP OPPORTUNITY WITH VIRGINIA COOPERATIVE EXTENSION CONTEMPORARY HISTORY PROJECT (1980-2020) – 2nd posting
VCE is looking for a graduate student to help preserve the more contemporary history of Virginia Cooperative Extension, beginning in 1980 and going to the present through a yearlong 20-hour assistantship. The student will work with a faculty team to develop resources that can serve as an ongoing historical account of this time period by analyzing existing documents and materials from University Libraries Special Collections as well as other sites. In addition, the student will organize and conduct focus groups and individual interviews to gather data related to the change in programs, technology and communications, and the administration and organizational structure in VCE during this time frame. The Instructional Design and Instructional Media group within Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies (TLOS) in the Division of IT, seeks a Blacksburg-based Graduate Assistant (GA) to support the development of content and interactive learning activities within instructional media as part of the development of engaging, technology-enhanced and high-quality courses for online, onsite, connected and web-extended. 15. VIRGINIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM FOR 2022-2023 – 3rd posting
The Office of Government and Community Relations seeks a student interested in state government and policy for the Virginia General Assembly Fellowship program. The Fellowship is targeted at students who have an interest in state government and policy as the Fellow works in the Office of Government and Community Relations during both the fall and spring semesters. During the fall semester, the Fellow has a regular assistantship based in Blacksburg and is expected to make occasional trips to Richmond. During the spring semester, the Fellow serves in a full time role based in Richmond during the legislative session in order to monitor and participate in the activities of the General Assembly. After the session, the Fellow returns to Blacksburg to help with end of session wrap up items. The student will receive a full assistantship and tuition waiver for fall semester and spring semester. During the legislative session, a housing and food stipend is provided to cover lodging and meals. 17. SURVEY OF ONLINE LEARNING DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS – 1st posting
Participants are needed to complete a research survey concerning online learning at Virginia Tech during the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey is anonymous and can be completed in about 10 to 15 minutes. 18. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR STUDY ON DANCE AND THE BRAIN  – 1st posting
The Embodied Brain Lab at VT investigates how mind-body-movement practices affect brain function and physiology. Help us learn more about the effects of dance on the brain by participating in a 4-week study. Participants will be randomly assigned to either participate in a group movement class or movie watching experience. These sessions will occur biweekly (2x/week) for a duration of 90 minutes. 19. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR STUDY ON ADOLESCENT SOCIAL ANXIETY – 1st posting
Researchers from the SCANlab are looking for families who have a socially anxious teen (13-17) to participate in a study about how their brains process reward. This study includes the completion of self-report questionnaires, a Zoom call, and an in-person MRI scan. Altogether, participation in this study will take approximately 3 hours. Participants must be teens between the ages of 13 and 17, and must currently identify as socially anxious and moderately stressed. Parents will need to be present during the Zoom call and MRI portions of the study. A total of $80 in compensation will provided to each participant ($15 for completion of questionnaires, $15 for Zoom call, and $50 for completion of the MRI scan). 20. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR A MARKET RESEARCH STUDY  – 1st posting Researchers from the Virginia Tech Economics Laboratory are currently seeking participants aged 18 and older for a research study (IRB: 22-124). This research aims to study the effects of short selling on market bubbles. These studies will involve participating in an experimental market and completing a survey. The study takes place in the Virginia Tech Economics Laboratory in 2088 Derring Hall. The study will take around 90 minutes to complete. Participants will receive $10 as compensation for their time to show up in the lab. They may receive an additional payment depending on their choices in the experiment.  All compensation will be paid in cash at the conclusion of the study. To be eligible to participate in this experiment, participants must be able read and comprehend the English language; be 18 years of age or older; and be able to provide consent to participate. 22. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR STUDY ON PEDESTRIAN SAFETY – 2nd posting Researchers from the Mind Music Machine lab and the Human Impact Lab are conducting research on pedestrian safety for VT students. It will take up to 15 minutes to participate in the experiment.  Participants will wear a VR headset during the experiment. Please note, it is not mandatory for students to sign up as a participant, and that their participation is completely voluntary. Participants will be compensated at a rate of $10/hr. Eligible participants are current Virginia Tech students 18 years of age or older, living or traveling to campus, and those who have NOT already participated in this study before. 23. VTTI/COGENT RESEARCH STUDY SEEKING PARTICIPANTS – 2nd posting
VTTI/Cogent is recruiting healthy individuals to participate in a research study (IRB # 22-294). Participants must be licensed drivers with normal vision between the ages of 18 and 65. The study requires participants to participate in one session at Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI), lasting approximately 2 hours, which will occur during the day.  This project provides compensation of $60 for full participation. You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to participate. The EchoLab at Virginia Tech is seeking individuals that are eligible for a user study that involves creating voice memos for a system that summarizes and organizes voice memos in a hierarchical structure. The goal of the study is to understand how participants interact with such systems. This is a Virginia Tech research study with IRB # 22-112.
