US citizen graduate students are welcome to apply to the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program, a fully-funded intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program. 19. BUILDING MANAGER POSITION AT GRADUATE LIFE CENTER FOR SPRING 2018 – 2nd posting
SECL building managers oversee daily operations of the GLC by monitoring service, safety, and security of this space created for graduate students. Duties include walking rounds, responding to issues, and completing reports, in addition to the facilitation of the co-curricular and administrative programs of the student center services and their events. Directly responsible for event management bookings, opening & closing of the building, and submitting of facility work orders and daily reports. Must possess strong communication and customer service skills, and ability to move event equipment (tables and chairs). Currently looking for flexible staff members willing to work at least two shifts a week and have weekend availability. 20. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: STUDY ON SCHOOL READINESS IN PRESCHOOLERS – 2nd posting
The iLEAP Lab in the Psychology Dept. is conducting a new study focusing on school readiness in preschoolers, and the predictability of different cognitive development factors in monolinguals and bilingually exposed children. The study will comprise of two visits, 1 year apart. During this visit, a variety of tasks will be administered in play-like interactions, lasting about an hour and 15 minutes. Data will be collected again one year later. Looking for preschool children (about 3 years old) who speak English only, but especially for those who speak and hear a different language at home. Offers a $15 compensation at each session for filling out the demographic and language questionnaires. 21. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: STUDY WITH VIRTUAL REALITY (VR) TECHNOLOGIES – 2nd posting
A team is investigating the best ways to interact with Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, and this study compares various methods of interaction with virtual data and information.  Voluntary participants are needed for a user study entitled “View management and user interface optimization for wide-area mobile augmented reality” at the Moss Arts Center. Participants will have a chance to experience the state-of-the-art technology of Virtual Reality. The Center for Applied Behavior Systems in the VT Psychology department is looking for African American students at VT who would be willing to participate in research examining what cognitive factors are related to learning and performance. 24. HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY STUDIES RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY – 3rd posting
Seeking individuals who identify as female, are over the age of 18, and in a monogamous same-sex relationship in which one person identifies as bisexual. Doctoral candidate in the Human Development and Family Studies Department at Virginia Tech is investigating the impact of attitudes regarding bisexuality on relationship satisfaction among female same-sex couples. This dissertation is a two-part study beginning with a survey at: https://virginiatech.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8nQe5rRtzJmPqol . Both partners are asked to complete the survey separately, and can indicate interest in follow-up interviews at the end of the survey. Both partners will also be given the option to enter to win a $50 Amazon gift card for participating in the survey. “THE NATURE OF FORGETTING”

Are you a student of neuroscience, human development, psychology, or another discipline that explores the mysteries of the brain? The Moss Arts Center invites you to a free performance of The Nature of Forgetting. Theatre Re collaborated with London neuroscientist Kate Jeffery to create a moving articulation of the countless dimensions of memory and amnesia, linking science with real life experiences.
