The New River is a graduate student-led journal of digital art and literature housed in VT’s MFA in Creative Writing. Please join us for our first ever issue launch. The event will begin with an exciting premiere, “platform sabotaging” performance by digital artist Herdimas Anggara, followed by an introduction and celebration of our new issue. Dr. LaDale Winling will present some of his recent work, including a June 2021 article co-authored with Todd M. Michney in The Journal of American History entitled, “The Roots of Redlining: Academic, Governmental, and Professional Networks in the Making of the New Deal Lending Regime.” CCC Faculty Forums are open to all students, faculty and community members. 9. WINTERSESSION COURSE: EDHE 5984: SAFE IS INSUFFIECIENT -REGISTER NOW! – 3rd posting
This course will engage in critical examinations of trans inclusion strategies in higher education from the position that safe and safety are insufficient. Students will explore concepts such as trans*ness, safety, allyship, inclusivity, and communities, in relationship to how institutions of higher education signal efforts for trans inclusion. This course takes a liberatory approach to imagine the potentialities for institutional and system dismantling of trans oppression. Students will engage in intensive self-reflective writings of their experiences in higher education inspired by readings to analyze limitations and potentialities for trans inclusive and affirming collegiate institutions. 10. GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP IN KARST STUDIES – MS ($7,000), PhD ($20,000) – 3rd posting
Research on caves and karst in any field are eligible, including but not limited to archeology, biology, engineering, environmental science, geography, geology, hydrology, and social science. To apply, provide, in PDF format: 1) letter of intent, 2) thesis or dissertation research proposal of 5,000 words or less (not including references), 3) graduate transcripts, and 4) two letters of recommendation, including one from the thesis or dissertation advisor. 14. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR STUDY AT THE MIND MUSIC AND MACHINE LAB – 2nd posting
The Mind Music and Machine Lab at Virginia Tech is seeking individuals to participate in a study to determine the effects of in-vehicle agents on driver experiences and performance in semi-automated vehicles (#19-088). During the study, you will be asked to drive in a driving simulator. Criteria for eligibility are: 1) active driver with a valid license; 2) age 18+ with good health; 3) normal vision and hearing (Due to device limitation, participants cannot wear glasses during the study but contact lens are okay). The study will last approximately 120 minutes. Each participant will receive a compensation of $20 for participation. For more information, please contact Manhua Wang (manhua@vt.edu). 15. INDIVIDUALS OF ALL PHYSICAL ACTIVITY LEVELS NEEDED FOR A RESEARCH STUDY – 3rd posting
We need individuals of all physical activity levels (18-60 years of age) for a study examining the relationship between physical activity level and the total number of calories expended each day (IRB #21-567). Participants must be non-pregnant, vaccinated for Covid-19, with a stable body weight over the past year (±5 lb), and free of cardiovascular, lung, metabolic, kidney disease or cancer. We look for sedentary or regular exercisers, with no recent injury or other reason that has changed the daily physical activity. This study will require 1 virtual meeting and 2 visits to the Human Integrative Physiology Laboratory at Virginia Tech, which will take approximately 6 hours. You will receive information on your body composition, aerobic capacity and other health information.
