This engaging symposium entails an hour-long story circle featuring speakers who have been personally impacted by gun violence, followed by a thirty-minute round table discussion led by a facilitator. The primary purpose of the symposium, is not to reach a consensus on what should be done about the issue, but rather to give space for stories from differing vantage points to be heard. The panelists are not lecturing or presenting an argument, but allowing the audience to feel and hear the passion embodied by each speaker’s experience. National Biomechanics Day (NBD) is a celebration of biomechanics principles, research, and innovation across the United States and around the world. 33. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR COLD BREW COFFEE SURVEY – 1st posting
The Virginia Tech Food Sensory Lab is studying the sensory properties of cold brew coffees. Participants will smell and taste coffee samples, then “free-sort” them into groups. Time commitment is 30 min. Must be 18+ year old regular coffee consumers and can enjoy a snack and coffee after completing the evaluation as compensation. The study will be held Tuesday Apr 2, Thursday Apr 4, and Thursday Apr 11 from 8:30am-1:30pm in HABB1 205. Login to Compusense at https://vt.compusensecloud.com/ to take the screener for the study. 34. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: OBJECT MANIPULATION & WEIGHT PERCEPTION IN VR – 1st posting
Participants will play an interactive virtual reality (VR) game that’s built upon the latest VR technology, including head-mounted display and hand-held input devices, and answer some questions about perception of the interaction. Entire session should take approx 70 minutes and will take place at Moss Arts Center. The Granata Biomechanics Lab is studying the impact of race and related factors on movement mechanics. This low-risk study will involve two testing sessions (approx. 30 min. and 90 min. in length). $20 in compensation for r participation in this study. To be eligible, participants must: (1) self-identify as either white American or African-American, (2) can walk without an assistive device, and (3) have not had a lower extremity injury in the past 3 months that limited your physical activity for more than 2 days.
