4. MARC EDWARDS UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH SEMINAR

Dr. Marc Edwards is a University Distinguished Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. A nationally renowned expert on municipal water quality, he first won widespread recognition for exposing lead pollution in Washington, D.C.’s public drinking water, and has been hailed as a public health hero for his key role in bringing to light the Flint Water Crisis. 5. ALBUM OF SOCCER WORLD CUP RUSSIA 18 – 3rd posting
People from some of the countries that qualify to the soccer World Cup Russia 2018 are needed to paste into an album the stickers of the players from their own countries (i.e. people from Egypt to paste in the album the stickers of the players from the Egyptian team). Stickers are available – they just need to be pasted. Purpose of this album is to join different cultures through one of the common aspects shared — SOCCER. Anyone from the countries listed below who want to collaborate on this, email grad student Adrian at atola@vt.edu. Also, if from a country that qualified to the World Cup but is not listed, signatures/positive messages/photos are also wanted. Countries needed: Russia, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, France, Australia, Denmark, Iceland, Croatia, Serbia, Sweden, Belgium, Panama, Tunisia, England, Poland, Senegal, Japan.

6. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR STUDY ON COMPUTERS AND BRAIN STIMULATION – 3rd posting
Participants aged 18+ needed for a research study involving making decisions on a computer and completing surveys during transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) of the brain. tDCS is a non-invasive procedure that involves applying low levels of electrical current to the brain through electrodes attached to the scalp. This 2 hour study takes place in Derring Hall. Not everyone in the study will undergo tDCS. Participants will receive $20 in cash compensation and have the opportunity to earn additional compensation (up to $50) depending on choices made by participants. Individuals who have seizure disorders, metal implants in the head, problems with their ears or scalp conditions should not participate. 7. SEEKING PARTICIPANTS FOR A DRIVING SIMULATOR STUDY – 3rd posting
The COGENT lab in ISE is seeking participants for a driving simulator study between 6/4-6/29. Open to anyone 18+ with normal vision without glasses (contact lens are OK) and more than 2 years of driving experience. $10 compensation for one hour experiment. Please contact Hy Kim (hy.kim@vt.edu)

8. SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR STUDY ON EYE GAZE AND EMOTIONS – 3rd posting
The CEaSR Lab in the Psychology Department is looking for 6-10 year old children for a new study focusing on eye gaze and emotion recognition in children who may be considered fearless, have difficulty showing emotions, or appear unresponsive to punishment. This is a five week study, in which participants will come in twice a week for 30-45 minute sessions. During visits, subjects will play computer games and answer brief questionnaires. In addition, we are interested in collecting information about the physiological components of these abilities. Subjects will wear a stretchy EEG cap to collect brain wave activity during the initial session in our study. Children will receive $40 and small prizes. Parents will be compensated $150. 9. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR STUDY ON SCHOOL READINESS IN PRESCHOOLERS – 3rd posting
The iLEAP Lab in the Psychology Dept. is conducting a new study focusing on school readiness in preschoolers, and the predictability of different cognitive development factors in monolinguals and bilingually exposed children. The study will comprise of two visits, 1 year apart. During this visit, a variety of tasks will be administered in play-like interactions, lasting about an hour and 15 minutes. Data will be collected again one year later. Looking for preschool children (about 3 years old) who speak English only, but especially for those who speak and hear a different language at home. We offer a $15 compensation at each session for filling out the demographic and language questionnaires. 10. VOLUNTEERS FOR REWARD & LOSS FINANCIAL DECISION-MAKING STUDY – 3rd posting
Must be 18- 55 years old to participate. The study involves completing an online questionnaire after which participants are entered into a raffle to receive a $50 Amazon gift card. May possibly be contacted to complete an optional second part of the study, which will be conducted on the VT campus, when brain activity measurements will be taken while you make financial decisions.
