3. ANIMALS IN THE ATRIUM: ADOPTION AND DE-STRESSING EVENT IN ROANOKE
Tuesday, May 29th, the Roanoke Graduate Student Association is hosting an adoption event with Angels of Assisi, the Roanoke no-kill shelter from 10AM-2PM in the VTCRI Atrium.  All animals at the event will be available for cuddles and de-stressing, and are up for adoption through Angels of Assisi. Special event-only adoption fees have been extended: $30 for kittens, $10 for cats, and $65 for dogs. Visit the RGSA Facebook Page for more information!

6. GRADUATE STUDENT WAGE POSITION FOR GLOBAL TRAVEL – 1st posting
The Global Education Office (GEO) is looking for a graduate student for a temporary, emergency-hire role to support global travel. The Graduate Student Assistant contributes significantly to global travel registration, communication and compliance. This is a 3-hr/day, 15-hr/week student wage position at $10/hr for Summer 2018 with the potential to extend into Fall 2018. The anticipated start date is June 1, 2018 or as soon as possible. 7. GA POSITION IN THE OFFICE OF BUDGET & FINANCIAL PLANNING – 3rd posting
Graduate assistant position working with the Financial Planning functions of the office. This 9-month, 20 hour/wk. position begins Fall 2018. Possible summer internship will be hourly wage position (20 hours per week, negotiable). This position will assist in the analysis and development of budget components, research and understanding of the higher education policy environment, and benchmarking of various budget and planning concepts including tuition, student financial aid, faculty and staff compensation, and other topics as needed. Should have an interest/focus in public budgeting, strong oral and written communication skills, strong analytical skills, experience with Microsoft Excel, and the ability to perform work of a varied difficulty. Volunteers and research participants sought:
8. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BIOMECHANICS RESEARCH PROJECT – 1st posting
Volunteers needed for Biomechanics research project in the Granata Lab (Room 208) at Norris Hall on campus. Project is identifying jumping patterns of males vs females to further investigate the increased female to male ratio of ACL tears in non-contact sports. Seeking subjects between ages 18-35 years old with no prior orthopedic surgery or significant lower extremity injury. Testing will be from May 29 – June 1 9:00am – 5:00pm. Tasks include performing a few different jump tasks with reflective markers on them to track via motion capture. Participants need to either come wearing compression shorts above the knee and socks below the ankle or socks and spandex will be provided. 9. VOLUNTEERS FOR REWARD & LOSS FINANCIAL DECISION-MAKING STUDY – 1st posting
Must be 18- 55 years old to participate. The study involves completing an online questionnaire after which participants are entered into a raffle to receive a $50 Amazon gift card. May possibly be contacted to complete an optional second part of the study, which will be conducted on the VT campus, when brain activity measurements will be taken while you make financial decisions. 10. VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT TO PLAY AUDIO-GAME FOR STUDY ON SOUND – 2nd posting
Volunteers needed for a user-study that gives participants the chance to play an Audio-game with the Cube’s 128-speaker array using gestures alone, while collecting valuable data on human perception of sound at the same time. Must be 18+ years of age. Study will last between 30-40 minutes and will be held in the Cube a facility within the Moss Arts Center on the Virginia Tech campus. 11. SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR STUDY ON CHILDREN’S EMOTIONS AND MEMORY – 2nd posting
The C.A.P. Lab in the Psychology Department at VT is looking for 9-10 year old children for a new study focusing on children’s ability to learn how to regulate their emotions and its impact on memory. Subjects must be healthy, born after a full-term pregnancy, and weighed at least 6 pounds at birth. During this visit, subjects will watch some short video clips, some for memory and others to elicit specific emotions, play some word and computer games. In addition, we are interested in collecting information about the physiological components of these abilities. Subjects will wear a stretchy EEG cap to collect brain wave activity and ECG electrodes to collect heart rate activity. The visit should last about 1.5 hours. $20 Target gift card for parents and a toy for children.
