4. GRADUATE SCHOOL SUMMER HOURS STARTING 5/14 – 2nd posting
The Graduate School’s offices in the GLC  will operate with summer hours, 9:00am-4:00pm daily, with student services opening at 9:30 on Wednesdays. Immigration walk-in advising hours in the summer are MWF 1:00-4:00pm, TTh 9:00am-12:00pm. The Graduate Life Center remains accessible 24/7 to all graduate students with a valid Hokie Passport. A secure drop box is available for form submissions immediately outside GLC 120.

6. GA POSITION IN THE OFFICE OF BUDGET & FINANCIAL PLANNING – 1st posting
Graduate assistant position working with the Financial Planning functions of the office. This 9-month, 20 hour/wk. position begins Fall 2018. Possible summer internship will be hourly wage position (20 hours per week, negotiable). This position will assist in the analysis and development of budget components, research and understanding of the higher education policy environment, and benchmarking of various budget and planning concepts including tuition, student financial aid, faculty and staff compensation, and other topics as needed. Should have an interest/focus in public budgeting, strong oral and written communication skills, strong analytical skills, experience with Microsoft Excel, and the ability to perform work of a varied difficulty. 7. GA FOR DATA MANAGEMENT AND CURATION SERVICES – 3rd posting
Data Services, within the Research and Informatics Division of University Libraries, has an opening for a full-time (20 hr/wk) 9 mo. Graduate Assistant for the 2018-19 academic year. Position will focus on evaluation, continuing development, and provision of research data curation services through the University Libraries. Ideal applicant will have experience and knowledge relevant to research data management and curation (through coursework and/or their own research experiences), data curation, and/or service development. 8. SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR STUDY ON CHILDREN’S EMOTIONS AND MEMORY – 1st posting
The C.A.P. Lab in the Psychology Department at VT is looking for 9-10 year old children for a new study focusing on children’s ability to learn how to regulate their emotions and its impact on memory. Subjects must be healthy, born after a full-term pregnancy, and weighed at least 6 pounds at birth. During this visit, subjects will watch some short video clips, some for memory and others to elicit specific emotions, play some word and computer games. In addition, we are interested in collecting information about the physiological components of these abilities. Subjects will wear a stretchy EEG cap to collect brain wave activity and ECG electrodes to collect heart rate activity. The visit should last about 1.5 hours. $20 Target gift card for parents and a toy for children. 9. ETD WORKSHOP FOR SUMMER AND FALL GRADUATES – 1st posting
Wednesday, May 23 at 2:00pm in GLC Room F and Zoom
Graduate Admissions and Academic Progress staff will offer an ETD workshop to graduate students (also available through Zoom at https://virginiatech.zoom.us/j/877479649.) Students will learn how to format their Electronic Thesis/Dissertation (ETD), what Graduate School staff members look for in the ETD review, and what happens to an ETD after it is submitted to the Graduate School. Students may bring their laptop and PDF copy of the ETD for individual review.
