4. GRADUATE SCHOOL SUMMER HOURS STARTING 5/15 – 1st posting
Starting Monday, May 15, the Graduate School’s offices in the GLC will operate with summer hours, 9:00am-4:00pm daily, with student services opening at 9:30 on Wednesdays. Immigration walk-in advising hours in the summer are MWF 1:00-4:00pm, TTh 9:00am-12:00pm. The Graduate Life Center remains accessible 24/7 to all graduate students with a valid Hokie Passport. A secure drop box is available for form submissions immediately outside GLC 120.

5. COMMUNITY CHANGE LOOKING FOR EDITORIAL BOARD MEMBERS & PEER REVIEWERS – 1st posting
Community Change is an online, peer-reviewed, graduate student journal that seeks to explore multiple approaches to democratic community development and change. This interdisciplinary journal examines the practices, processes, and individual and collective struggles that produce change at all levels of society. Community Change adopts a broad definition of community development that includes issues relating to public policy, democratization, collective action, physical and social infrastructure developments, agency, and efficacy. 6. GRADUATE RESEARCH ON VIOLENCE PROGRAM ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS – 3rd posting
The Center for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention (CPSVP) is accepting applications for the Graduate Research on Violence Program. The aim of this program is to provide graduate students support for conducting thesis or dissertation research pertaining to issues of violence. Proposals are welcome from students in all departments, centers, and programs at Virginia Tech.  The funded student is expected to be a full-time, graduate student in good standing, and the research/scholarship is expected to be grounded in the social sciences, humanities, or arts. Applications are due June 15, 2017. The Research on Violence Program anticipates making three awards in the range of $1,000 to $1,500. 11. WEB DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT SUMMER WAGE POSITION – 2nd posting
VT’s Office of Academic Decision Support is looking for a graduate student for summer 2017.
Primary duties include designing and creating web site/web-application. Must have strong and verifiable UI/UX and web programming skills. Hours per week: 20-40/wk. Potential for fall assistantship for qualified candidate. Required qualifications: UI/UX design and development skills; knowledge of web markup and scripting languages: HTML5, CSS3, Javascript and jQuery with an understanding translating mockups to code; demonstrated evidence in UI/UX design and development; evidence of creativity and innovation; ability to work in collaborative environment; excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The Graduate School Student Services office is looking for a full-time graduate assistant (GA) to provide administrative and program-specific support for student services in the GLC. Volunteers are needed at the Blacksburg Farmer’s Market during the summer to help run the information booth on market days of Wednesdays and Saturdays in 3-hour shifts. 16. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR STUDY WITH CHILDREN WITH ASD – 1st posting
Participants sought for research treatment study that targets both child language skills and parent stress. Researchers will teach language skills to children 1.5-6 year-old children using Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT), while adding either mindfulness-based techniques or psycho-education material to provide new ways to increase well-being. There will be a 50% chance of being placed in the mindfulness group. Parents and children will complete a pre-treatment screening visit, 15 treatment visits (11 group sessions 2 hours in length targeting PRT skills, 4 individual PRT sessions), a post-treatment visit and a follow-up visit. Only parents will attend the group meetings. There is slight risk to participating, due to time commitment required to learn and practice a new set of skills as well as a new environment for children. 17. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR SOCIAL ANXIETY DISORDER STUDY – 1st posting
VT researchers seek young adults with Social Anxiety Disorder SAD for a treatment study. Participants will receive a new computer-based intervention with automated performance feedback with the goal to help people improve their ability to recognize and accurately interpret social signals in other people. Participants will be offered a no-cost experimental treatment and be compensated up to $80.00. Must be 18-29 of age; have a SAD diagnosis or strongly suspect SAD. Participants will take part in 1-2 assessment visits to confirm fit for study, lasting about 2 hrs. If eligible, complete 6 treatment sessions during which you will wear a HoloLens (i.e. virtual reality headset) to interact with a computerized program, like in a video-game. 18. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR EYE GAZE AND EMOTIONS STUDY – 3rd posting
Is your child: Bold and fearless? Not worried about their behavior? Insensitive to others?  Uncaring? Join the Eye Gaze & Emotions (EGE) Study. 2 hour research study for children ages 6 to 10 with flexible scheduling. The child will play a feelings-matching game and a sticker sharing game. 19. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR VTTI RESEARCH STUDY – 3rd posting
The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) is seeking drivers with a valid U.S. driver’s license who are 30-75 years of age and must meet the following criteria: drive one of the following types of vehicles: Lincoln, Cadillac, Audi, Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, Volvo, Tesla, VMW, or Mercedes, must be 2015 model or newer.  The project request two visits scheduled about a week apart. Session one is approximately 1.5 hours and session two is about 4 hours. 20. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR RESEARCH STUDY – 3rd posting
VT researches are currently seeking participants aged 18 and older for a research study involving making interactive decisions on a computer and completing surveys.  The study will take place in the VT Economics Laboratory in 2088 Derring Hall.
