2. OPEN SCIENCE FRAMEWORK FOR INSTITUTIONS DEMO

The Open Science Framework (OSF) is a free, open source web application that connects and supports the research workflow, enabling scientists to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of their research. Researchers use the OSF to collaborate, document, archive, share, and register research projects, materials, and data. The Center for Open Science, which created this product, has invited VT to be part of a pilot for the new OSF for Institutions (OSF4I). 3. GLC CAFÉ: WATERMELON EDITION

The weekly GLC café is offered every Thursday when VT is open. Summer café may be on the West Patio when the weather is nice, complete with a game of cornhole or giant Jenga. 4. APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED FOR TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP FOR OPENCON2016 – 1st posting
The Graduate School and University Libraries are co-sponsoring a travel scholarship to attend OpenCon 2016, Nov 12-14 in Washington, DC. Learn more about the application and apply by Sep 20 at https://secure.opencon2016.org/referral/virginiatech. OpenCon is a conference focused on learning about open access, open data, and open education. The current application process is only for Virginia Tech graduate students; if you applied through the conference-wide process that ended July 11 but were not accepted, you will be automatically included in this round, which closes September 20. Two recipients will be selected based on their responses by the scholarship sponsors, the VT Graduate School and the VT Libraries.

6. GSA SEEKING 2016-17 PROGRAM CHAIRS – 2nd posting
The GSA is currently accepting applications for this year’s program chairs! Chairs are interviewed and appointed by the Executive Board officers. Responsibilities include implementing the GSA’s programs, attending board and delegate meetings, and volunteering at GSA-sponsored events. Program chairs develop leadership skills and can add unique professional experiences to their CVs. Currently the GSA is seeking one Travel Fund Program chair, two Research Symposium chairs, one Graduate Research Development Program chair, and one Funding Programs chair. 7. RESERVED PARKING LOTTERY FOR GRAD ASSISTANTS FOR 2016-17 – 3rd posting
The Office of Parking and Transportation has developed a new pilot program based on recommendations from the GSA for 2016-17 that will allow up to 75 eligible graduate students to sign up for reserved parking spaces in Perry Street Lot 3. The annual cost is $296 and participants may use payroll deduction to take advantage of the pre-tax savings. Eligible graduate students who wish to participate should register for the lottery drawing by sending an email to parking@vt.edu with the eligible individual’s last name and student ID number, before 11:59 p.m. on Aug 10.
