2. GLC CAFÉ
Thursday, Jul 7, 3:30-5:00pm, GLC Reading Room or West Patio (Bookstore side behind the shrubs)
The weekly GLC café is offered every Thursday when VT is open. Summer café may be on the West Patio when the weather is nice, complete with a game of cornhole or giant Jenga. Enjoy free coffee, tea and cookies and the occasional fresh lemonade or other surprises in the company of your grad student friends and colleagues. Relax, network, meet new people.

3. ICE CREAM FRIDAY
Friday, Jul 8, 2:00-2:30pm Grad School lobby
Did you scream for ice cream? Whether you did or not, ice cream will be served in the Grad School lobby or on the patio for any and every graduate student who comes by. Take a quick break, enjoy some ice cream and meet other grad students who are around this summer. Some lactose-free options will be available. 4. TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION ENROLLMENT REQUIRED – 1st posting

5. VT RECREATIONAL SPORTS: SMALL GROUP TRAINING- GRIT – 2nd posting
Small group training combines group exercise with personal training. The Les Mills GRIT™ Series is a 30 minute fitness program that takes cutting edge High Intensity Interval Training and combines it with powerful music and inspirational coaches. Summer Session II will run July 5- August 11 on Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30-6:15PM in McComas Studio B. That’s 12 sessions for $100. You do NOT need to have a McComas membership to participate. 6. FEDERAL DIRECT LOAN ELIGIBILITY REMINDER – 2nd posting
You must be enrolled in at least 5 credits in the fall/spring semesters to use Federal Direct Student Loans. If you enroll for less than 5 credits, Financial Aid will not be able to process your loans. Please notify the VT financial aid office of your enrollment by emailing to finaid@vt.edu if this is the case. In addition, if your enrollment will be less than 9 credits, your loan amount will be reduced accordingly.

7. DATA SCIENCE FELLOWSHIP APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED – 3rd posting
The Data Incubator is an intensive 8-week fellowship that prepares master’s and doctoral students and postdocs in STEM + social science fields seeking industry careers as data scientists. The program is free for Fellows and supported by sponsorships from hundreds of employers across multiple industries. 8. CHILD-CARE SPOTS AVAILABLE IN LITTLE HOKIE HANGOUT FOR FALL – 3rd posting
The Little Hokie Hangout child care cooperative exists as a resource to graduate student families. This fall families may enroll for more than 1 session each day, which means your children can stay longer if you need them to. Also, parents may buy out their cooperative work requirement if desired. If you want to explore options not found on the application, such as buying out a portion of your work requirement, or having a child attend 8 sessions per week, please contact Marin Riegger, child care coordinator, for assistance, childcare@vt.edu. 

9. SUMMER WAGE AND 2016-17 GA POSITION IN OFFICE OF BUDGET AND FINANCIAL PLANNING 3rd posting
The Office of Budget and Financial Planning is hiring an intern/graduate assistant with the Auxiliary budget functions of the office to assist in the budget development, monitoring, and reporting processes for the university’s budgets. Position responsibilities will provide exposure to the central financial and administrative functions of the university and offer insight into the state’s budgeting process. The ideal candidate will have an interest/focus in public budgeting, strong oral and written communication skills, strong analytical skills, experience with MS Excel, the ability to perform work of varied difficulty including the collection and analysis of complex data, and experience compiling and presenting reports. May also be involved in ad-hoc projects and other tasks. Summer hourly wage, full assistantship during academic year. 12. PARENTS OF 6-9-YEAR-OLDS SOUGHT FOR RESEARCH STUDY – 1st posting
Help contribute to the understanding of how kids see emotions. Parents and legal guardians complete questionnaires and children complete in-lab tasks and computer games. Flexible, after-school, weekend, and summer hours available for this one-time, two-hour session. Parents receive up to $20 and a toy for their child. 13. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR RUNNING STUDY – 3rd posting
Graduate students are invited to participate in a running study conducted by the Kevin P. Granata Biomechanics Lab to investigate how the asymmetry between the left and right side of a runner’s body is affected by exhaustion from longer distances. Volunteers between ages 18-35 may participate if:  they run at least 10 miles per week; have not had an injury in the past 12 months that has kept them from running for more than 2 days, and have not had an injury within the past 2 months. Eligible subjects will run two runs: a short, two-mile run, and a long, four-mile run, spaced at least a week apart. Data collected from the study will be used to see if differences in asymmetry patterns exist in an outdoor training environment between long and short runs, and if differences in asymmetry patterns exist between males and females. 14. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR ACHILLES TAPING STUDY – 3rd posting
Graduate students are invited to participate in an Achilles taping study conducted by the Kevin P. Granata Biomechanics Lab. This study tests the effects of a specific Achilles taping technique during running and jumping tasks. Subjects will be outfitted with 3D motion capture markers in order to measure movement and loading during the tasks. Eligible subjects must be between ages 18-35, must participate in athletic activities at least 3 times per week, and have had no leg injuries in the past six months that have kept them from performing athletic activities for more than two days, and no leg injuries at all in the last two months. Testing will take place during one session in the Granata Lab and will last 60-90 minutes. Contact the Granata Lab at granata-lab-g@vt.edu or (540) 231-4294 if you are interested.

15. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR STUDY ON RECALL OF LOCATION-BASED TO-DO TASKS – 3rd  posting
Yao Wang, a PhD student in HCI invites you to participate in a study (IRB #15676) on how people remember and recall location-based to-do tasks. The study consists of two sessions: the first session takes no more than 20 minutes; the second session takes about 30 minutes. Both the sessions will be conducted in Usability Lab E at McBryde 133. The second session will be scheduled 3 days after the first session at your convenience. In the first session, you will be asked to remember a list of to-do tasks. Three days later, in the second session, you will be asked to come back and recall these tasks. If you are interested in this study, contact Yao yxw5167@vt.edu.
