2. BOLLYWOOD DANCE CLASSES THIS SUMMER

Want to look really cool and learn something new at the same time? Join Bollywood Dance Classes this summer and surprise your friends once the semester starts. The classes will cover many other Indian dance forms and are free and open to all. It’s time to grab your dancing shoes! 3. THESIS THURSDAY
Thursdays, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Need a quiet space to work on your thesis, dissertation, or course work? Gotta study for exams? Absolutely have to get that article out, like, yesterday? Thesis Thursday is your answer! Thesis Thursday is a weekly gathering of graduate students who want to keep accountable to a regular work time and need a guaranteed quiet place to work. Meet each Thursday just a few blocks off campus at 107 Church Street – 2nd floor of the State Farm office (entrance on Church Street). Free coffee and wi-fi provided, plus multiple spots to sit and study alone or in groups. Plus, there’s a lobby area to take a quick break or talk through a problem with a fellow grad! 4. GLC CAFÉ: JUST THE USUAL

6. GSA SUMMER BEER AND WINE SOCIAL

The GSA invites you to its Summer Beer and Wine Social. General admission is $10 for those drinking and $2 for non-drinkers. Please bring proper identification. 7. GRADUATE PREFERRED PARKING PILOT PROGRAM –  2nd posting
VT Parking and Transportation is offering a pilot program for the 2015-16 academic year for Graduate Teaching Assistants, Graduate Research Assistants, and Graduate Assistants who are in a salaried assistantship appointment position. The program will feature specific spaces in Perry Street Lot 3, and the yearly permit will be $284. The pilot will be offered as a lottery to students who have pre-registered by August 10th. 8. CALL FOR CONVERSATIONAL TRANSLATION ASSISTANCE DURING UIFA CONGRESS AT VT – 2nd posting
During the 18th UIFA Congress, international participants would benefit from help with conversational translation (primarily Japanese and French) during informal portions of the congress. 9. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION IN 18TH UIFA CONGRESS AT VT – 3rd posting
During the 18th UIFA Congress Jul 28-31, international participants would benefit from knowing of the contributions of women from around the world in architecture and related design fields. Help organizers make this a global celebration by reporting on the work of a woman in architecture in your home country, and how her work has made a difference and contributed to your country’s culture. LISA (Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis) provides a series of evening short courses to help graduate students use statistics in their research and teach practical statistical techniques for analyzing or collecting data. 11. SUMMER WALK-IN STATISTICAL CONSULTING BY LISA – 1st posting
VT’s Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (LISA) walk-in consulting will be available until Aug 14. A statistical consultant is available 1:00-3:00pm Monday through Friday when classes are in session to answer quick questions or to help with research projects requiring less than 30 minutes of assistance. For more in-depth questions or longer projects, complete the LISA request form and a team of statistical collaborators will be assigned to work with you. Note: LISA does not assist with class projects or homework. Locations are:

12. PT GENERAL MANAGER SOUGHT FOR EDUCATIONAL MEDIA CO. AT VT – 1st posting
The part-time General Manager serves in an emergency capacity as the Chief Operating Officer of the current Educational Media Company at Virginia Tech, a non-profit corporation with its principal offices on campus.  Max 20 hours/wk with max pay of $20/hr, no benefits.  Primary responsibilities: provide administrative, organizational and financial guidance to the company; serve as team leader to the Management and Advisory Team, the daily supervision team for the six divisions of the company; assist in developing and administering budgets for each division of the company. 13. UPLOAD INSPIRING/FUN SHORT VIDEO ADVICE FOR NEW GRAD STUDENTS! – 3rd posting
What advice do you wish someone had shared with you when you first started as a grad student at Virginia Tech? What little tidbit of information made your first year better, more successful, more fun? Use your smartphone or camera to record a quick video and share your insight(s) with new graduate students; in the video, hold up or stand in front of a sign that has your first name,  academic level, and department/program (for example, <Monika,  master’s in hotel management>. 14. CHILDREN WITH FREQUENT TANTRUMS/TEMPER OUTBURSTS SOUGHT FOR TREATMENT STUDY – 1st posting
Children ages 8-12 are currently being enrolled for a free treatment study for frequent tantrums/temper outbursts and chronic irritability. The treatment is designed to teach children to regulate their emotions, and will be conducted in 13 weekly sessions. Families will also receive $70 for completing assessment sessions for the study. 15. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR GEOSPATIAL DATA RESEARCH STUDY – 1st posting
5-15 participants sought for a month-long research study focusing on the question “how might we provide mobile users with a way to explore, interact with, and analyze their personal geospatial data.” Participants will be optionally given an Android device to interact with and visualize their personal location-based data and will be asked to complete one 15-minute survey per week for four weeks to give investigators insight on their use of the application. At the end of the four-week study, you will be asked to participate in a 30-minute interview and return the device. Participation is voluntary and all data collected will be confidential.
