Weekly services are on hiatus in the summer, except for the café. However, career advising, counseling, and writing support are available at each service’s home location in the Career Services Center, Cook Counseling and Newman Library respectively.

2. SHORT STAT COURSE FOR GRADS: FACTORIAL EXPERIMENTS – BLOCKING, CONFOUNDING, AND FRACTIONAL FACTORIAL DESIGNS
Wednesday, Jul 30, 4:30-6:30pm, 1080 Torgersen Hall
Taught by Emanuel Msemo, this course will cover ways to handle situations when it is impossible to perform all of the runs of the factorial experiments under homogenous conditions. It will also cover the screening experiments in which many factors are considered and the objective is to identify those factors (if any) that have large effects. This short course is open to all, but the audience is assumed to be knowledgeable in ANOVA and basic principles of designing an experiment. A quick introduction to design of experiments will be given. The focus of these two-hour courses is on teaching practical statistical techniques for analyzing or collecting data. 4. REFERENCE LIBRARY ASSISTANTS GA OPENING – 1st posting

5. GRA OPENING FOR 2014-15: GIS WEB APPLICATION DEVELOPER – 1st posting
VT’s Enterprise GIS and BEV seek a highly-motivated graduate student with web design and programming skills to develop GIS-related web applications as assigned in a technical team environment, using an evolving set of best-practice tools, libraries and techniques. Responsibilities include developing web mapping applications that interface with IT’s GIS server infrastructure, performing mapping and analysis tasks and supporting high-visibility mapping initiatives. Required experience: Web application programming: HTML, CSS, JavaScript. Other experience, in descending order of preference: Working in a distributed team environment; Tools and APIs related to the ESRI ArcGIS platform; REST/SOAP Services-Oriented Architecture; jQuery and Dojo Toolkit JavaScript libraries; Bootstrap and mobile-first design principles; Revision control (e.g, svn); Security, safety and/or facilities management application domains; Open-source GIS server tools (e.g., GeoServer, PostGIS, Geoportal Server); Drupal CMS; SQL ( MySQL/ PostgreSQL /Oracle); PHP; 960 Grid CSS framework; Adobe Creative Suite; Graphic design; Candidates with a subset of the preferred skill set that can demonstrate web application development proficiency and willingness to learn the geospatial aspects of the work are encouraged to apply. The VT Global Education Office is seeking a Graduate Assistant for the 2014–2015 academic year to assist in the coordination of the office’s enrollment management efforts and with users of the Studio Abroad database system. The GA will also advise potential global education students on available opportunities and assist with global education recruiting fairs, orientations and other events. 7. COACHES SOUGHT FOR 2014-15 VT CLUB SPORTS – 2nd posting
The following VT sport club teams are looking for coaches for the upcoming school year: VT Crew (rowing), Women’s Basketball, Women’s Lacrosse and Women’s Water Polo. All 31 VT sport clubs are extremely competitive, and compete at the intercollegiate level against sport club teams from other colleges and universities around the region and throughout the country. Sport clubs practice during the week and travel to tournaments or host home games/tournaments on weekends. 8. VT ENGAGE-AMERICORPS PROGRAM SEEKING GRAD STUDENTS FOR PT POSITIONS – 3rd posting
VT Engage is hiring 21 part- and full-time members to serve in their new AmeriCorps program with the American Red Cross in Roanoke and Smart Beginnings NRV in the areas of disaster preparedness/response and early childhood literacy. This is a great opportunity for students, alumni, and community members to gain invaluable experience, learn more about their community, and fulfill Virginia Tech’s motto of Ut Prosim. New members will be selected by August 4. Starting this September, each member will serve for approximately one year to build awareness and capacity in our communities. All of these positions come with a stipend and educational award. There are several 300 and 675 hour positions available that would fit well with a current student’s schedule.
