Participants will discuss specific nonparametric tests, such as the rank-sum and signed-rank test (alternatives to t-test*), the Kruskal-Wallis test (alternative to ANOVA*), and the Spearman rank correlation (an alternative to the Pearson correlation) and review examples of how to implement these methods in R. The course will feature both lecture and computer laboratory elements. The Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (LISA) provides a series of evening short courses to help graduate students use statistics in their research. The focus of these two-hour courses is on teaching practical statistical techniques for analyzing or collecting data.
