3. JOIN GSA FOR A SALEM RED SOX BASEBALL GAME

The GSA invites graduate students and their families and friends for a group trip to watch the Salem Red Sox minor league baseball team play next Thursday at Salem Memorial Ballpark in Salem, VA. Tickets are $6 per person and transportation via vans and carpool is available for $2 per person. Meet at 5:30pm in the GLC lobby; the drive to Salem is ~45 minutes. Please fill out this survey to help organizers plan for the number of tickets to hold and to reserve the van(s). Participants are sought for a study investigating the effects of flexion and lifting on the biomechanics and neuromuscular control of the human torso.  The study consists of five separate experimental sessions (each lasting approximately 1 hour) and participants will be compensated $10/hour.  To qualify you must be male, between the ages of 18-29, and regularly exercise at least 2-3 times per week.  For more information or to inquire about participation, please contact Nima.

5. iPHONE USERS SOUGHT FOR RESEARCH STUDY – 2nd posting
Computer science grad student is looking for iPhone users to serve as research participants for a project called ‘InstaRide’ to understand the perceptions of trust in a mobile software application that integrates collaboration and social networks. InstaRide is a ridesharing application that would leverage social networks to embed trust. Your participation will help researchers gain insight into the design of their application and user interfaces. The study will consist of two parts, including a set of scenario-based tasks using the iPhone and a short questionnaire. The whole experiment will last for about 1 hour. This study has been approved by Virginia Tech IRB (approval number 10-352). Please contact Vineeta if you are interested. You must be 18 or older to participate.

Researchers in the Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise Department are conducting a study to determine the sensitivity to change of a brief dietary intake questionnaire. You may be eligible to participate if you are 21 or older and are in good health. The study involves 14 weekly visits to the VT campus, each less than 30 minutes (excluding the initial 1 hr visit).  Participants will be compensated a total of $45. 3. GSA DOG DAYS AT FLYINGFUR!

4. GRAD ASSISTANT POSITION OPEN IN DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
Multicultural Alumni Programs in the VT Office for Diversity and Inclusion seeks a graduate assistant for 2010-11 to assist the director with programming and administrative support and collaborate with the VT Alumni Association and Student Alumni Associates on programs and events. 3. GSA HIKE TO THE CASCADES
Saturday, Jun 19, 10:30am, meet in front of GLC (on Otey Street)
Hike with the GSA to this local attraction, a beautiful and fun showcase of Southwestern Virginia. The hike is 4 miles round trip and the waterfalls are at the turnaround point. The trip and hike will take about 3-4 hours. The GSA will get a large van and may need additional drivers and will reimburse drivers for parking and gas. Please join in and tell your friends. To qualify you must be at least 18 years old, own and use a qualified smartphone for at least 6 months, and have an unlimited data plan from your wireless provider. 4. GRAD STUDENT LEADERS SOUGHT FOR LEADERSHIP TECH
The Department of Student Activities is seeking 9 graduate students to serve as small group facilitators for an undergraduate leadership development program, Leadership Tech Engaging Leadership, to help students develop their potential for responsible citizenship and leadership through community service and other experiential learning activities. Facilitators will work in teams of two or three to guide a group of 10-15 junior and/or senior students organized around environmental sustainability; social justice; multiculturalism; global issues; health and wellness; community vitality. If interested, submit your resume and complete the application. An interview will be scheduled for those who meet the minimum qualifications. 5. GRAD STUDENT ELIGIBILITY FOR SUMMER HEALTH SERVICES

• Graduate students enrolled in both Summer Session I and II, continued eligibility for service at Schiffert and Cook Centers is maintained throughout summer, as a two-term fee is assessed as part of enrollment ($160 for summer of 2010).
• Graduate students enrolled only in Summer I or Summer II, only a single session fee is charged ($80 in 2010) but also only a single session of coverage is provided.  However, students may purchase health service coverage for the rest of summer by paying an additional $80 at the Schiffert Health Center.
• Continuing graduate students who do not take classes in the summer but who work towards their degree on campus or in the environs can elect summer health service coverage by paying the full summer fee ($160 in 2010) and be eligible for health services at Schiffert and Cook for the period that runs from the end of spring to the beginning of fall (when comprehensive fee billing resumes).
• Continuing graduate students can also elect to pay a day fee (in 2010, $59 per visit) for service. For a person who will use Schiffert Health Center and Cook Counseling Center no more than twice together, the day fee is cost effective. However, if one will use Schiffert and/or Cook more than twice, it is a better value to pay the summer health fee.
